Indonesia vs Japan Preview
Japan will be looking to continue their unbeaten run when they take on Indonesia at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium Stadium in Jakarta.
Indonesia have not won any of their last four games and will be looking to change their fortune against the superior Japanese team.
- Japan won their only previous meeting against Indonesia
- Japan are yet to lose in 8 competitive matches
- Indonesia have won just one of their previous seven matches in all competitions
Head to Head
Despite being on the same continent, Indonesia and Japan haven't faced off often, with their only meeting coming in the Asian Cup group stage on January 24.
The match ended in a 3-1 home victory for Japan. Indonesia were limited to just three shots and their only goal came in added time (90+1).
Indonesia Form
Indonesia are winless in the last four matches and have won just one of their last seven games.
After four games in the World Cup Qualifications campaign, they sit in 5th place and have scored four goals and conceded five.
Their last match ended in a 2-1 loss away to China despite dominating most of the game.
While their form may look worrying, they have also lost just one of their last five matches with one win and three other matches ending in a draw.
They held Saudi Arabia to a 1-1 draw away in the first match of the qualification campaign. They also held Australia to a 0-0 draw before a late 90+9 goal from Bahrain shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the third match.
Indonesia Team News
Indonesia has no major team news.
Japan Form
Japan are enjoying a beautiful start to the World Cup Qualification with three wins and one draw in four games.
They have scored 15 goals and conceded just one goal through the four matches and lead Group C with 10 points.
Japan easily defeated China 7-0 to start the campaign, limiting them to just one shot throughout the 90 minutes. Their next game ended similarly as Japan easily defeated Bahrain 5-0 away.
Japan continued their form and defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 away before being held to a 1-1 draw at the hands of Australia.
Australia had just one shot throughout the match, and it wasn't on target. However, an own goal from Taniguchi in the 58th minute was enough to give them the win.
Japan Team News
Japan are only missing Shogo Taniguchi after he picked up an achilles injury while on club duties at St. Truiden. He'll be out for the rest of the season.
Verdict
The odds are largely in favour of Japan as they are clear favourites to win the match and will most likely do so by at least a two-goal margin.
The match should be similar to their only meeting that took place in January, and Japan is likely to dominate.
